A day trip to Naples!

Yesterday we left at 08:15 by train to Napoli Centrale, where we saw an awful lot of beautiful things. Mika had been there before, but I hadn't. We both enjoyed this historic city (again).

Girolamini church

We navigated to Galleria Umberto which was a half-hour walk. On the way we walked through narrow streets decorated with flags of Maradona. Really everywhere you looked he was being honored. In those streets there is a big church every kilometer. When we got to Girolamini, we decided to go inside and what a beauty it was. A church from 1592 completely "decorated" with art. You want to take a picture of everything because every second you see something new. Below you can see some photos of this extraordinary church.

Market

Then we walked on to the mall and along the way we all came across markets and food trucks, which was very pleasant. By early afternoon, more street musicians came which also attracted many tourists. It was hearty because they played a lot of Italian music.

Galleria Umberto

After a long walk, many of which were interrupted by shopping trips, we arrived at Galleria Umberto. This is a beautiful shopping center covered by a glass sphere. We took some pictures here, but did not visit any stores because it was quite crowded. The mall is not very big, so we walked further to the coast of Naples.

Souvenirs

On the shore there were many boats and there was also a small market here. The markets sold a lot of candy, souvenirs, art and jewelry. All the jewelry was handmade so each stall was unique. In the end we went home with two new posters and a wine bottle stopper (from Naples) that we bought from such stalls.

Gesù Nuovo church

Since we were in town early, we walked back toward the station around 2 p.m. and wanted to visit the last stores there. We felt we had seen enough and our feet were getting tired. On the way to the station we came across a very special church; Gesù Nuovo. This Catholic church has a very special exterior (and interior of course) and was consecrated in 1601. In the morning I had done some sightseeing and also came across this church. Good thing I knew, otherwise we would have walked right past it. We didn't go in here, which is secretly a bit of a shame. If you are in Naples, I definitely recommend going inside and admiring this majestic church.

Train back

At the station we had another beer in the food hall and visited the Flying Tiger (always fun). At 15:13 we took the train to Caserta where we changed trains towards S. Maria Capua Vetere. After half an hour of walking we were finally back at the camper and looked back at the pictures of this beautiful day.
